Note that we live next door in the white house.

We are licenced by the town of Fort Erie to operate this short term rental and per the bylaw we must post house rules.

There is a lot to do in rural Fort Erie. A few of the attractions include:

Crystal Beach is several kilometers of very shallow water and sandy beaches and therefore warms up early in the summer.
Ridgeway has a boutique movie theatre with a licence to serve adult beverages.
There are many very good restaurants in Ridgeway, Fort Erie and 20 minutes down the road in Port Colborne too.
The Friendship Trail passes through Ridgeway

THE GARAGE and the cabin are on one acre. We live next door and are also on one acre. Although we are close, your privacy is our foremost concern and we won’t be bothering you but are here if you need anything.

The garage is a work in progress and may sometimes be in use. We also have our exercise equipment inside and sometimes come over to use it. We will not interfere with your use of the deck or back yard.

The garage is being converted into a classroom which will present as very large living room, with couches and chairs, lectern, audiovisual equipment, projector and kitchenette. Our intention is to expand on the delivery of mental health education programming that we started in 1996. We have been delayed as work halted with the declaration of state of emergency and social distancing but when it is operational, we expect to offer half and full day workshops.

Need to know information about The COTTAGE

THERMOSTAT for gas fireplace
Please do not turn it below 16 degrees. Be gentle with it as it’s an antique.

FIRE PIT
Firewood is available for the outdoor fire pit. Find it under the blue tarp at the far end of the garage. Please keep the fire reasonable (no more than 18 inches tall from the ground) as we don’t want the volunteer firefighters called by neighbours and none of us want a fine.

OUTDOOR LIGHTING
The driveway lights and one light facing the path to our house are always turned on by motion. The lights from the garage are also on motion to your cottage and should be turned during your vacation. If they are on and bothering you, please let us know and we will come to the garage and switch them off.

WOODSTOVE
Winter guests will be provided with wood for the wood stove. The flue is operated from left (less air flow and slower burn) to right (more air flow and hotter burn). Once the fire is burning strong it is important to adjust the flue to midway or lower air flow. Burning with maximum air flow will use up the wood quickly. The electric fan will turn on automatically (no adjustment required).

The kitchen window above the sink should be opened a few inches to allow some fresh air into the cabin and circulate into the woodstove.

TV
The tv is 65 inches and has Netflix and YouTube. That’s it.

STOVE
Please don’t use the bbq element of the stove.

BBQ outdoors
Please keep it where we left it, away from the cabin. No need to move it. There is no need to roll it around, because the wheel housings are easily bent on these residential units.

IMPORTANT
We want your stay to be trouble free so if you are having difficulty with anything in our cottage, please call us.

PARKING
We prefer that you park in the rear, next to the garage, where we have motion lighting, video surveillance and a path to the house. From the front driveway there is no entry access to the front door, no lighting, no path to the back door and there are trip hazards.

VIDEO CAMERAS
We have several cameras outside but none pointed at the cottage. They are pointed away from the cabin towards the driveway.
